Frequently Asked Questions
how does judge government affairs differ from the multitude of government affairs consultancies?
Judge Government Affairs is focused on helping clients develop, hone, improve and grow effective government affairs teams and is not focused on line lobbying as many firms are. We are happy to work with lobbying firms and partner with them to achieve results. We believe that developing a winning Government Affairs function is more than just issue management. Our motto is “excellence in advocacy” and that encompasses more than just meeting with legislators and policymakers. We provide high-touch, personalized consulting that can improve individual and team efficiency and maximize the function regardless of size.
what is your business philosophy that potential clients should know?
We first and foremost believe that government affairs as a necessary part of good government in a Democracy such as ours. State and federal officials rely upon government affairs professionals for accurate information, timely analysis, insights and to help identify unintended consequences as they legislation is considered. Government affairs professionals need to be well-versed, trusted brokers of information and be welcome with their views on the issues affecting their organization or company. We have worked in Government Affairs for over 25 years and have put together winning teams and compelling narratives for several major corporations, including Abbott Laboratories, Hoffmann-LaRoche, Pfizer, and Teva Pharmaceuticals and have experience with trade associations and medical professional societies after working for a US Senator and House Member. We want to put that experience to work for clients who may just be getting started in government affairs and for those who have teams that want to be best-in-class and could benefit from what I have learned over many years in many environments.
Can judge government affairs help clients at the state level?
Yes, and that really is a differentiator as well. We have worked in state and federal government affairs and believe they go together and should always be aligned. Issue management, strategic relationship development and consistent communications are critical - being well coordinated internally and externally makes all the difference in executing winning strategies and developing strong relationships.
does judge government affairs help clients with federal agencies or just Congress?
The agencies are critical to good advocacy and information sharing. Once legislation passes, the implementation that occurs within the agencies implementing them becomes vital. Good government affairs requires working with federal agencies and understanding how they operate and how to work with them in a productive way. We have extensive experience working on a host of challenging and technical issues with federal agencies, specifically FDA, CMS, NIH and CDC. We want to help clients navigate the agencies as well and have the confidence to develop relationships with key officials that are relevant to their organizations or companies.
